What Is Agarwood?
One of the world's rarest natural materials
Agarwood - also known as oud, aloeswood, or Aquilaria resin - forms when certain tropical trees respond to stress by producing a dense, dark, resin-saturated heartwood. This process can take years or decades, and only a fraction of trees ever produce it. The result is a material of extraordinary complexity: dark and heavy, layered in scent, and difficult to fully replicate by synthetic means.
The fragrance of agarwood can be earthy, woody, sweet, smoky, or cool with resinous depth depending on origin and species. Vietnamese material is often valued for clean sweetness, Indonesian oud for heavier character, and Malaysian agarwood for a cooler, more resin-led profile. We work with both wild and cultivated agarwood, and we will always tell you which is which.
